I'm not sure what images you were referencing and if they were incomplete figures, but if they weren't incomplete, then my first piece of advice is to draw the whole figure. That will help with understanding the proportions of the figure better.

I would also suggest that you develop these figures just a little more. I understand that if you were doing gesture drawings here, the figures won't be very detailed in the end, but I am having trouble understanding which direction the figures' heads are pointing in this, because the head is such a quick oval.

My method is to sketch a circle, then put two lines indicating roughly the center of the face, which change depending on the angle the face is pointing.WSUlx5M.png

Your joint are more accurately placed in the right gesture. Although I don't know what's happening at the left.

Maybe the time you give yourself is too little and you over simplify to the point you may not get as much from a longer pose. Try to work backwards. Longer poses to shorter poses. Get familiar with the most important lines. Line of action, shoulder and hip alignment and then the limbs. And then you can train to get these informations down faster.
