Your goal is to improve proportions so I'm going to focus on that: the head looks a little large to me, it's a super common mistake to make. I generally make the shoulders about 2 heads wide. Once you place an oval or circle for the head, be sure to constantly refer to it as you construct the rest of the body. A standard adult is usually 8 heads tall. More info.
