Warm Up, but I spent sometimes 2 mins

by Naima, June 27th 2023 © 2023 Naima

Done as part of a practice session with poses of 60/ 120 seconds in length. I returned to some positions because my goal was to capture the essence ( again carried away)

You know, Naima, I say how much I love the range of shapes and forces of your hand gestures you've captured with as much fewer lines as possible, 'cause you're doing a great job. Keep at 'em! But, these lines of action all look and seem not light and caricatured enough to me yet. Why don't you please lighten up those lines and outlines with 5 minutes of 30 seconds of hands and feet?

The reason:

To improve your gestures of hands and feet, but to make the hands and feet less rigid, and to make them more dynamic, energetic, therefore with a light touch.

Let's hope this helps you out so much.

Dang, you get these done real quick! My hands still look blocky when I have two minutes, but it might just be the type of digital brush Im using. I should practice more with my pastelish one.

Some of these hands are more confident than others, your poses at the top the perfect pair of examples. I think you rushed the one on the top right to get the details like the one on the top left, and that resulted in those rushed panic lines we all make when we look at the timer and have only 15 seconds left.

If you know a hand might be in a difficult pose, make sure you get the basic building blocks of the form correct before trying to add the shading and wrinkles. I could tell you corrected that impulse later on with the middle left pose.

I love how well you draw hands, and seeing your little guidlines and some of your hand shapes, reaffirms the little techniques I've been doing work well.

Thank you Drunkenelf, you hit my mistakes on the spot. Especially the idea of beeing rushed. I will try to start with building blocks first and to be honest, shading is something I am almost terrified, I usually force myself to do shading " to exercise" it at all. Your percise critics really helps. Have a nice day and thank's again.

I mean, they are two minute studies! Laying down basic shading in that time is real impressive! Remember to keep it just two tones, because you'll end up rushing if you have more detail than that.
