Day 9, Learning foundations.

by Starcursedmass, October 21st 2021 © 2021 Starcursedmass
Done as part of a practice session with poses of 60 seconds in length. Another "meh" day. In in the search for learning, I've found this website (https://community.lovelifedrawing.com/) to learn the foundations of figure drawing. I'm going to try the foundations challenge, as well as, continue to practice on this site and see if anything improves. My current goal is: I don't know! I am an absolute beginner; I'm here to study the basics of rendering, stay consistant with practice.

Hi, it's great that you are focusing on the 3 main body masses - head, ribcage & pelvis - & the line of action. I wouldn't worry about putting in the limbs right now. I would focus on getting the angle of each body mass (each one could be different) so that you end up with 3 boxes & then I would also work on memorising the proportions of each box. I would also work a little bigger to start off with (it's easier) & for maybe at least 2 mins. I hope this is helpful.

Nice choice of drawing community, Starcursedmass. I'm very, very encouraged and so enjoying how much of the progress of your quick poses. Keep pushing yourself!

So, fast forward to the criticism of mine, I feel that though your going for the balance and the anatomy getting there, but the weight of the attitiudes of the standing pose is not clearly telling enough of the story here. Would you kindly though the ribcage askew, and the pelvis the way to the upper right, with 30 minutes of 28 second quick scribble poses? (along with the others on this picture above and the other images on the Robert Fawcett book On The Art of Drawing) (1800 seconds/28 second poses=64 pictures of figures of various dresses)

And getting back to reason why, it's because your contrapposto of the figure drawings will be able to be the least rigidest and the most natural-looking and -feeling as you want to handle. Gets better over time.

My hat's off to you.
