to get a better grasp on the human body, of course, and also to practice shading/value. this isn't a proper value study, but i avoid shading often, so i thought i might as well try.
ah, just that it makes you know forms and stuff, and i don't have a very good grasp on that kind of stuff. i like gesture and quick sketching, not construction or painting or anything that can't be done quickly.

Interesting -- many students jump directly to shading, often way, way too early. What do you think makes you want to avoid it?
